Dear Oakwood Elementary Families,
I would like to welcome each of you to the 2018-2019 school year. I hope the summer has provided you with many memorable opportunities to spend time with family and friends. While our hallways and classrooms are currently quiet, it won’t be long before the sounds of fun and learning take over once again. As we prepare to embark on another year, I am reminded that the beginning of the school year is truly a special time and I am eagerly looking forward to partnering with you as we continue to nurture the ongoing development of your child.
Whether this will be your first year at Oakwood Elementary or you are returning to our school community, the staff and I would like to extend our warmest welcome. I could not be more excited to be working alongside Oakwood’s amazing staff and wonderful families. A commitment toward working with, understanding, and nurturing each and every child is one of the many reasons why Oakwood Elementary is such a wonderful place for children to learn and grow.
While this will be my third year a principal of Oakwood, the 2018-2019 school year marks my 15th year in the field of education. My background includes twelve years of teaching experience at first, second and third grade levels including combinations classrooms. I obtained my Master of Arts in K-12 Educational Administration from Michigan State University after which I accepted the position of Principal at Oakwood Elementary. I continues to be a pleasure to be in Portland and serve as the principal of this wonderful school.
I would like to invite all Oakwood Elementary families to attend the Oakwood Elementary Open House on Monday, August 20th from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Families will have the opportunity to tour the building, meet their classroom teacher, and see their friends. Prior to the Open House, all families are invited to attend the Oakwood Outdoor Classroom dedication ceremony in honor of Vicki Lawless from 4:30-5:00p.m. in the Outdoor classroom, beyond the 1st and 2nd grade playground. As indicated on the school calendar, the first day of school is on Wednesday, August 22nd, which will be a half day beginning at 8:49 a.m. and ending at 12:12 p.m.. Full day hours for the duration of the school year are 8:49 a.m. to 4:00 p.m; before school playground supervision will begin at 8:35 a.m.
I look forward to working with you so that we can continue our journey toward student success. Please enjoy the remaining days of the summer as we eagerly anticipate a fulfilling year of meaningful learning experiences for our students. My door is always open and I welcome you to stop by the office. Together, we can make this a wonderful school year!
